The Gap X GQ annual collaboration is one of our personal favorites. We love when big stores collaborate with up and coming or established brands to not only give the consumer a chance to try something that may normally be out of their price range, but it also gives small shops the chance a big mainstream exposure. Some may think “mainstream” is a bad thing, but that’s a whole separate topic. In short, we as consumers get to try to pretty cool and unique fits, materials, and designs with more affordable pricing.
Let’s look over The Hillside Herringbone pants. We have a soft spot for herringbone. It’s just timeless, aesthetically pleasing, and a sartorial pleasure.
The Gap X GQ The Hillside pants are made up of 68% Cotton, 22% Polyester, 10% Acrylic which at first we weren’t sure would be a great thing. We like our wool, but after trying these on, we were definitely impressed. The pants have a beautiful heft to them, not too light, but not too heavy by any means. The plastic button fly could have used nicer buttons but overall we aren’t complaining.
There is a nice detail with the front coin pocket which is a nice touch along with navy pocket lining which is also in herringbone (a very pleasant detail they considered). The stitched panel detailing on the leg below the knees is one of the notable features. It’s very subtle but gives the pants just a little extra character which we enjoy.
The fit is a very flattering slim and fits true to size. The pants have a conservative but good taper below the knee through the hem. One thing we noticed is the hem itself is a little thicker than most pants, most likely due to the extra stitched panel. For any of you that cuff or roll your pants, this is something to consider because the cuffs will come out thicker than you are probably used to. The fabric itself is very comfortable and definitely something we can wear throughout the day without discomfort.
I’d definitely recommend scooping up a pair of these Gap X GQ The Hill-Side Herringbone pants if you can still find some. Online at Gap there have been numerous sales and promo codes. Keep your eye out for 50% codes, those are usually the best available!
I’m looking forward to next year’s list of collaborations and hope they continue to bring cool options to the table.
